🎣 Fishing Report – Sand Heads, September 10, 2025
Fishing at Sand Heads has been really good! There are lots of big fish around, and the weather has been great – the perfect time to get out there with your friends and loved ones to enjoy this awesome fishery.
The most important way to be efficient right now is to fish the flood and lately I've read of good results on slack tide. That’s when you’ll get the highest return on your time on the water.
Be sure to play with your depths. Productive ranges on the downrigger have been anywhere from 55 to 120 feet, while fishing over 130 to 230 feet of water.
Along with the big chinook, there have also been coho salmon caught in the mix. Just a friendly reminder: check for the adipose fin – if it’s missing, it’s a hatchery fish and can be retained. If it’s a wild coho, make sure to release it safely in the water.
When it comes to gear, anglers are seeing success with anchovies and spoons, but recent results show that running hoochies in varying colors – white, green, and blue – has been especially productive.
And don’t forget – these fish are big, feisty, and strong. Make sure your gear is ready to play before you head out.
Now’s the time to hit the water – good luck and tight lines!
