π£ Yellow Point Fishing Report β August 6β9, 2025
Our trip began with the ferry ride from Tsawwassen to Departure Bay, followed by a quick 20-minute drive down to Yellow Point in Ladysmith. We checked into our Airbnb at the Inn of the Sea Resort, greeted with perfect summer weather and a 100-foot dock right at our doorstep.
Within minutes we were on the fishing grounds targeting lingcod and prawns. We pounded the bottom with a 2 lb ball attached to a spreader bar, reeled up 4 times and drifting our swimbait presentation. This turned out to be the meal ticket. Shortly after the drop, the rod buckled and we were into an exciting fight with our first lingcod.
The moving current made for easy drifts with the boat in idle, swimbaits fluttering enticingly as territorial lings waited to strike. On slack tide, bumping the engine to move the presentation proved equally effective.
Prawning in new waters took a little trial and error. After moving spots a couple of times, we honed in on the sweet zone. From there it was just a matter of rebaiting and pulling traps once in the morning and again at night. Few things beat the sight of a trap surfacing full of spot prawns, and our catch-and-cook sessions were absolutely delightful.
The resort itself made the trip extra special. Family-friendly amenities included a pool, hot tub, playground, basketball and tennis courts, plus a shoreline to beachcomb. Between fishing, prawning, and resort life, it was a memorable family getaway we plan to repeat once or twice a year.
