🎣 Vedder River Fishing Report – September 28, 2025
Autumn has arrived, and with it comes the excitement of a new fishing season. There’s nothing quite like those crisp mornings on the river, when the world is quiet except for the flow of the current and the anticipation of that first bite.
Today brought one of those moments that reminds us why we love this time of year. An angler standing high on the bank, polarized glasses on, spotted fish cruising the outside seam of fast water. Two casts later—fish on!
Key Takeaways from the Day
Polarized glasses are essential. They cut the glare and let you see fish and travel lanes hidden to the naked eye.
Bring a net. It lowers the risk of losing fish right at the bank.
Communicate with other anglers. It helps avoid tangles, especially when double-headers happen.
Patience pays. Schools move in waves—when they arrive, you’ll want to be ready. In short, keep casting!
Pre-tied leaders saved me today. After losing more gear than I’d like to admit, I was still able to get back on the water quickly.
Seasonal Reminders
If you’re releasing, do it in the water. It’s easier on the fish.
If you retain an Adult Chinook, record it on your license right away. It only takes seconds and saves headaches if a conservation officer checks in.
Conditions & Gear
The water is really low right now, and a good shot of rain would completely change the game—bringing fresh pushes of fish and spreading them out into new holding spots. Even in these conditions, the river is alive. Coho, Chinook, and even a toothy Chum made an appearance, with Sockeye being the only no-show.
For me, roe was the ticket, but I also saw plenty of action on pink/orange beads, red/purple yarn, and chartreuse yarn. It just goes to show—there’s more than one way to find success on the river.

That’s my take from the water, but every angler sees things a little differently. What’s been working for you this fall? Drop your go-to setups, favorite yarn combos, or bead colors in the comments—let’s help each other make the most of this season. Tight lines, everyone! 🍂🎣🐟🍁
